Storage and transport of hydrocarbons in Spain

CLH acts as an intermediary between the refineries and the consumers, bringing the various oil products closer to the users.

In Spain, we manage one of the largest oil pipeline networks in the world, made up of more than 4,000 kilometres of underground pipelines that link CLH's storage facilities with the country's refineries and the main ports, into which oil products are imported. In addition, we have two time-chartered tankers to transport fuel to our facilities in the Balearic Islands and to the two plants on the peninsula that are not connected to the oil pipeline network (Motril and Gijón), as well as to cover the operational needs of the company's logistics.

Our facilities and pipelines in Spain are connected by the most modern technology to their own control centres, which allows for continuous support, management and supervision of all our infrastructures. In this way, we can resolve any issues immediately.

When the fuel arrives at the facilities, we store it in different tanks depending on the type of fuel, mainly: gasoline, diesel, kerosene, fuel oil and biofuels.

One of the characteristics of CLH in Spain is that we handle all products in an undifferentiated manner. The fuel of the various operators is the same and meets basic legal specifications. The product differs only when the operators' trucks load it at the destination storage facility, when the operator's specific additive is automatically added.

At each stage of the storage and transport process, samples of the fuel are taken and analysed in our network of laboratories to ensure that they meet the strictest quality specifications.

In addition, CLH guarantees the reliability of the quantities supplied to customers through its Metrology Unit, which is responsible for verifying the proper functioning of the equipment used to measure petroleum products.

Technology is very much present throughout the logistics process; in Spain, we have advanced Information Systems that provide oil operators with the data they need to carry out their activities. This allows customers to place fuel orders from their offices, send their tanker trucks to plant loading sites or track the status of their orders in real time.

The loading of petroleum products into customers' tanker trucks is carried out through a highly automated and efficient process, which guarantees their quality and quantity.
